Bonding and Adhesive Systems for Dental Care

Bonding is used to create adhesion between dental tissues and various restorative materials. Adhesive systems are used, among other things, for direct composite restorations, adhesive cementation, post and core restorations, and the repair of existing restorations.

In which procedures is bonding used?

Bonding is primarily used to create adhesion between enamel or dentin and a restorative material. Common clinical situations include:

• Direct composite restorations, such as fillings and aesthetic build-ups.
• Indirect restorations such as inlays, onlays, crowns, and veneers, depending on the chosen adhesive and cementation system.
• Abutment constructions and cementation of root posts.
• Intraoral repairs of composite, ceramic, and other restorative materials.
• Treatment of exposed and hypersensitive tooth necks.
• Sealing of prepared tooth surfaces or cavities prior to certain restorative treatments.
