SURGICEL® is an innovative hemostatic material made of oxidized, regenerated cellulose with a low pH (pH = 4 in distilled water). When applied to a bleeding area and saturated with blood, it transforms into a gel-like clot. The hemoglobin in red blood cells converts to hematin, turning the SURGICEL® material dark brown to black, marking the treated area.
SURGICEL® is fully absorbable, typically resorbing within 7-14 days with minimal tissue reaction. It is bacteriologically safe and can be left in situ without the risk of infection.
With SURGICEL®, hemostasis is typically achieved within 2-6 minutes, making it a reliable choice for various surgical procedures. It is commonly used in general surgery, neurosurgery, and dental surgery, where rapid bleeding control is critical.
