PGA RESORBA® - Polyglycolic acid braided absorbable suture
PGA RESORBA® is a polymer based on glycolic acid. The degradation of the PGA suture in the tissue occurs by water uptake and is a reverse process of synthesis. The released glycolic acid monomers are broken down into CO₂ and H₂O by the body's natural enzymatic processes.
The thin, precision-braided filaments provide very high tensile strength combined with excellent compliance. The special surface treatment encapsulates the fiber bundles with a thin layer, reducing friction against the tissue.
Absorbable sutures support the tissue during the healing phase, while gradually losing their tensile strength. PGA RESORBA® contains precision-braided polyglycolic acid filaments, which provide a standardized and moderate rate of resorption into the tissue.
Depending on the filament diameter, approximately 50% of the initial tensile strength is lost after 18 days.
The violet PGA RESORBA® is colored with a physiologically harmless dye.
